STICHERA FOR A SUNDAY OF THE FIRST TONE.
by S. Anatolius.
ζοĻεĻį¾¶Ļ ĻĻĪ¹ĪŗĻ Ī¼ĪÆĪ±Ļ.
Fierce was the wild billow;
Ā Ā Dark was the night;
Oars labourād heavily;
Ā Ā Foam glimmerād white;
Trembled the mariners;
Ā Ā Peril was nigh;
Then said the God of God,
Ā ā"Peace! It is I!"
Ridge of the mountain-way;
Ā Ā Lower thy crest!
Wail of Euroclydon,
Ā Ā Be thou at rest!
p. 58
Sorrow can never be,ā
Ā Ā Darkness must fly,ā
Where saith the Light of Light,
Ā ā"Peace! It is I!
Jesu, Deliverer!
Ā Ā Come Thou to me:
Soothe Thou my voyaging
Ā Ā Over Life's sea!
Thou, when the storm of Death
Ā Ā Roars, sweeping by,
Whisper, O Truth of Truth!
Ā ā"Peace! It is I!"
[The above hymn has been set by my friend Mr. Helmore; also in H. E. C., of which it forms No. 1: also by Miss Kerr. The last melody is, to my mind, especially beautiful.]
