VERSE 8
THOSE who trulyĀ 1 meditate on Thee, the Spouse of Hara,Ā 2 who art seated inĀ 3 the cremation-ground strewn with funeral pyres, corpses, skulls, and bones, and haunted by female jackals howling fearfully; who art very youthful,Ā 4 and art in full enjoyment uponĀ 5 Thy Spouse, are revered by all and in all places.Ā 6
COMMENTARY
'Meditate on' (DhyÄyanti)
That is see with unperturbed mind.
'Spouse of Hara' (HaravadhÅ«į¹)
Hara is He who removes (Harati) the threefold pains (ÄdhyÄtmika, Ädhibhautika, Ädhidaivika) of Jivas. His spouse is Åakti, that is She who grants Liberation to JÄ«vas and is SaccidÄnandarÅ«piį¹Ä«.'
'Hast entered' (Praviį¹£tÄį¹)
Art established.
'Flaming' pyre (PrakatitacitÄyÄį¹)
Cit-Åakti On account of Her being self-manifested. Caį¹dÄ« speaks of 'Her who pervades the whole universe as consciousness (Cit).'
'Fearful' (GhorÄbhih)
That is very powerful.
'Jackals' (ÅivÄbhih)
That is MahÄbhÅ«tas which are auspicious (Åiva) before being made fivefold (PaƱcÄ«kį¹ta).
'Skulls and bones' (Muį¹dÄsthi-nikaraih)
The white colour of the skulls and bones indicates the white Sattva-guį¹a. Hence associated with the Sattva and other Guį¹as of the JÄ«vas dissolved in MahÄpralaya.
p. 65
'Ever youthful' (AtiyuvatÄ«į¹)
That is She is always the same, fresh, unchanging, and un-wasting.
'Satisfied with enjoyment ' (SantushtÄm-uparisuratena)
She, after subduing Parama Åiva to Her will, has willingly enjoyment in the work of creation, preservation and dissolution. NirvÄį¹a-Tantra says, 'The VÄmÄ (She who is on the left) is the Grantrix of Great Liberation after conquering the Dakį¹£iį¹a (Åiva who is on the right).' Gandharva-Tantra says, 'She who is the Sun, Moon, and Fire and half of Ha (Åiva) puts down the Puruį¹£a and enjoys him from above.' Niruttara-Tantra says, 'When Nirguį¹Ä KÄlÄ« becomes Saguį¹Ä She is engaged in ViparÄ«tarati.' The Yoga-vÄį¹£iį¹£tha in the NirvÄį¹a-Prakaraį¹a says, 'Natural unity is Åiva. Creation is (compared with it) unnatural.' That is the MahÄdevÄ« is Nirguį¹a-Brahman in Her SvarÅ«pa aspect and the subversion of this SvarÅ«pa is the cause of creation.
'Nowhere' (Kvacidapi na)
In no birth.
'Humiliated' (Paribhavah)
That is they are not subjected to birth, death, and rebirth and attain NirvÄį¹a.
